Colour, drama, music and dance make up traditional Japanese theatre performances and one of the most famous forms is kabuki, which started in the early 17th century. 🎭

The town of Yamaga in Kumamoto Prefecture is home to Yachiyoza Theatre, the first kabuki theatre built in Kyushu. While the performances are in Japanese only, English tours are available. Learn about the theatre’s history and the art of kabuki, and visit the secret ‘abyss’ under floor area, with its hidden revolving stage and trapdoors.

📍 Buses run from Kumamoto City to Yamaga bus terminal where you can walk to the theatre. #VisitJapanAU #Tradition
