CULTURE GATE to JAPAN gathers some of the talented artists and creators active in the field of Media Arts (Media Art, Animation, Games, and Manga) to showcase their works in seven airports across Japan. Each artwork has been created to introduce a unique aspect of Japanese culture.
Artist Spotlight: HIGA Satoru
HIGA Satoru is a visual artist and programmer who uses computers as a tool to create new forms of expression. For this project, HIGA has represented the history and spirit of the Ryukyu Kingdom on a digital platform with a 3D model of Shuri Castle (Shurijo), an icon of Ryukyu history that was largely destroyed by fire in 2019.
Artist Spotlight: nuQ
nuQ is an animator who creates fresh expressions with a comical pop sensibility. For this project, she has created a mural that brings together the history of the Ryukyu Kingdom with Okinawa’s modern role as a tourist destination.
The completed work will be displayed at Naha Airport, and can also be seen on the website.

「CULTURE GATE to JAPAN」は、メディア芸術のフィールドで活躍するアーティストが、７つの空港にそのエリアの文化を題材としたアート作品を展示し、日本文化の魅力を発信するプロジェクトです。
アーティスト紹介: 比嘉了
比嘉了は、コンピューターをツールに新しい表現を生み出す、ビジュアルアーティスト・プログラマーです。
本プロジェクトで比嘉は、2019年の火災によってその大部分を焼失した首里城の3Dモデルを活用し、デジタル空間上で琉球王国の歴史と精神世界を表現します。
アーティスト紹介: ぬQ
ぬQは、ポップでコミカルな作風で新たな表現を生み出すアニメーション作家・イラストレーターです。
本プロジェクトでぬQは、琉球王国の歴史と観光地としての沖縄の現在を掛け合わせた壁画を制作します。
完成した作品は那覇空港で展示され、ウェブサイトでも公開されます。
