WINE TASTING IN HOKKAIDO JAPAN – Visiting the Ikeda Wine Castle in Tokachi

Japan is a truly amazing country to visit. In 2019, I did an epic foodie adventure throughout the country, visiting destinations known for their food and food products. I visited the Japanese wine country in Tokachi on the island of Hokkaido. This is a video of my visit to the Ikeda Wine Castle ( in Tokachi. It shows a tour of the winery and vineyard and then my wine tasting in Japan.

The wine industry in Japan is relatively young but they are starting to win international awards for their vintages. We tasted some different red wines, some sparkling wine (Japanese champagne) and even some brandy, all grown and made at the Ikeda Wine Castle (Ikeda Budo Budo Research Institute of Fermentation).

My trip was part of a program called Savor Japan ( designed to highlight food-centric areas of the country not normally visited by international visitors.
