Hot springs for viewing rather than bathing
The “Hell Tour” of boiling hot springs in Beppu, Oita Prefecture
Beppu Onsen is one of the most popular Onsen resorts in Japan, which is located in Oita Prefecture, Kyushu Region.
The most unique one, “Hells”.Including the “Blood Pond Hell” there are 7 hot spring ponds in total called “Hells (Jigoku in Japanese)” in Beppu.
A journey through those hells is a popular tourist route in this Onsen district, and the tour is called “Jigoku Meguri” (the Hell Tour).
You can visit one, or as many hells as you want.
Blood Pond Hell (Chinoike Jigoku) is a red mud pool rich in iron and magnesium oxide and well suited to its name, has been actively bubbling in Beppu for over 1300 years.
