Every autumn amidst the changing leaves of the surrounding forest, the residents of World Heritage Site-listed Shirakawa-go practice using some 59 water guns to protect the thatched-roofed wooden houses in Ogimachi from potential fires.
Fun Fact: Did you know that these houses are stellar examples of traditional Japanese carpentry? They were built without the use of any nails and their structures have stood strong since the 1800s!
