Today I took a walk in Chatsubomi Moss Park.
I was worried about the weather on the day because it was cloudy and rainy every day, but it cleared up very well.
[What is Chatsubomi Moss Park]
There used to be an iron ore deposit in this area, and mining was carried out by open pit mining until 1966 (Showa 41).
Chatsubomi moss grows naturally in the hollow “Anajigoku（hole hell）” of the open pit.
Acid springs spring from everywhere from the hole hell, making it a perfect growing environment for Chatsubomi moss, which prefers strongly acidic water.
It boasts the largest growing area in Japan.
チャツボミ苔公園を散歩してきました。
連日曇りや雨続きで当日は天候が心配でしたが、とっても良く晴れてくれました。
【チャツボミ苔公園とは】
昔この地には鉄鉱石の鉱床があり、昭和４１年（１９６６年）まで露天掘りによる採掘がおこなわれていたそうです。
チャツボミ苔は、その露天掘りの窪み「穴地獄」に自生しています。
穴地獄からは至る所から酸性泉が湧き出ており、強酸性の水を好むチャツボミ苔にとって絶好の生育環境となっています。
日本最大級のチャツボミ苔の生育面積を誇っております。
