This island was discovered by the French André Thevet in December 1555, and recognized by King Henry II as a French discovery in 1556.
Paquetá with 4500 inhabitants is today a tourist island, calm, unpolluted, without cars and without violence.
Very easy to circulate, with 8km of perimeter. You can visit Pedra da Moreninha, the park, the beautiful beaches, the bird’s cemetery, the lighthouse of Mesbla, the home of José Bonifácio, the house of Morenina. All on foot, by bicycle or in golf carts run by tour guides.
Only the main street is made of parallelepiped and the vegetation is beautiful, especially with the 20 baobabs planted on the island.
But there is a Baobad tree that attracted my attention.
It’s the Baobad Maria Gorda! It is more than 7 meters in diameter and will be 100 next year.
Very magical!
The access to the island is made by Ferryboat, and takes around 75minutes.
A nice trip for a sunny Sunday day.
