We were told there is not much to do in Jakarta for tourists, were they correct?
Jakarta, Indonesia. In 2018 we went to Europe and on the way home we spent a few days in Jakarta.
So much culture shock!
There really is only a few places to see, so we took the opportunity to get our hair done- which was a great experience in itself – trying to communicate etc.
Monas National Monument – The National Monument (Indonesian: Monumen Nasional, abbreviated Monas) is a 132 m (433 ft) tower in the centre of Merdeka Square, Central Jakarta, symbolizing the fight for Indonesia. It is the national monument of the Republic of Indonesia, built to commemorate the struggle for Indonesian independence.
Construction began in 1961 under the direction of President Sukarno. Monas was opened to the public in 1975. It is topped by a flame covered with gold foil. (wikipedia)
Fatahillah Square (Indonesian: Taman Fatahillah) is the historical center of the old Batavia. The square is located at the center of Jakarta Old Town. Today the square is a tourist area home to the Jakarta History Museum, Wayang Museum and Fine Art and Ceramics Museum in Kota, Jakarta. (Wikipedia)
