Joining rope ends at the Naha Giant Tug of War

Moving 50,000 lbs. of rice straw isn’t as easy as it looks! Each piece has a giant loop at the end. One is rotated 90 degrees, placed through the other, and then a large log (weighing 365 kilos, or 805 lbs.) is inserted to keep them from slipping apart, forming a combined rope that is over 650 feet long, weighing 43 metric tons (94,799 lbs.).
