Apologies for a long wait on this Part 2 video introducing about Takamori, Kumamoto prefecture, in Southern west of Aso Huge Caldera.
Do be patient with us as this video maybe lengthy but it has a deep story to share to those who have not been here.
It’s one of the famous power spot here in Aso, Kumamoto prefecture, Kamishikimi kumanoimasu Shrine which worships deity of Izanaginomikoto and Izanaminomikoto.
A spiritual depth of this shinto shrine – buried in the heart of a cypress forest, climbing about 260 steps of a stone staircase which brings you to nearly about 100 mossy lanterns along the way, somehow it create a mythical atmosphere, mysterious and calm feeling as you enter deep in and one could feel as if you’ve entered into different world as said by many.
This area inspired the animated film Hotarubi no mori e (literally “Into the Forest of Fireflies’ Light” Link to watch this anime The view of this torii gate also appears in a memorable scene in the film, making it a great place for a “pilgrimage to the sacred place”. See if you can spot it!
This is the spot where many visitors took many photos.
There are many myths and legend behind this mysterious place between Deity of Aso Shrine, Takeiwatatsu no Mikoto’s and his follower, Kihachihoshi. However no one knows which is true but many believe the following ↓
It has been said that “Hogetoiwa” is a symbol of achieving any difficult goals without fail and has a blessing of success and victory because it has a big crack through a huge rocky mountain.

高森町のスピリチュアルスポット “上色見熊座（かみしきみくまのいます）神社”
阿蘇山の南東側の外輪山周辺に広がる高森町は、観光場所としては決してポピュラーな場所ではないのですが、知れば知るほど面白くなる不思議な魅力がそこにあります。
歴史ある建物のレストランや、全国に展開している阿蘇の酒蔵など多くの魅力がありますが、その中でも輝きを見せるスポットがあります。
それが“上色見熊座（かみしきみくまのいます）神社”
九州で有名な太宰府天満宮や阿蘇神社と比べると、当然その建物の大きさや観光客の多さには雲泥の差があります。ですが、貴重で神秘的な経験はここでしかできないでしょう。
日本のアニメーションの「＃蛍火の杜（ほたるびのもり）」のモデルとなり、全国的に有名となりました。
260段に及ぶ長い参道階段の両脇には、重厚な石灯篭が列をなして連なっています。緩やかにカーブを描くその参道のおかげで境内の入り口からは本堂を見ることができません。だんだんと灯篭が山陰に隠れていく様子に「今からどんな経験が出来るのだろう」と静かな胸の高まりを感じたのは私だけでは無いはずです。
多くの人たちのブログなどを見ていると、”鳥居をくぐった瞬間に空気が変わった！”と書いてありました。まさにその通りで、山陰と杉に隠れたこの場所は1日を通して日陰であるようで、私たちが訪れた初夏の時点でも涼しい環境でした。また、参道両脇の石灯篭が、別の世界に来たような雰囲気を作っているようでした。
階段を登り、より上へ上へ歩みを進めていくと、遠くにこの神社の本宮が見えてきます。遠目から見てもわかるその小ぶりな本宮、しかし、ちょうど西日が差し出していたこともあり、何か神々しいものに触れたような感覚。また、その本宮に向かって並ぶ無数の石灯籠が合間って、絵画を見ているかのような静かな感動がそこにはありました。
本宮に到着して、まずは神様にご挨拶。この感動に対する感謝をお伝えいたします。
この神社は阿蘇の神様のお話に由来しているようで、北の阿蘇と南の阿蘇が意外な形で結びついていることにとても驚きました。宮司さんが語ってくれたお話は、動画の中で紹介させていただきます。
