Part 3-

Under a friend’s strong recommendation, I decided that my next destination would be Takayama, a mountainous midway point between Osaka and Tokyo, hopeful for some cool breeze and escape from the summer heat. So after boarding the bullet train, I started booking an airbnb for my arrival in 4 hours, and all was well. But what’s an adventure without something going wrong?

Sudden strong typhoon etc, and the train to Takayama was down, forcing a detour made up of multiple transfers onto slower trains and buses, transforming the journey to around 9 hours in total. Wow that’s how long it takes to travel from Osaka to Tokyo, and back!

Thankful to the many friendly staff who helped me find my way in the complicated detour! (Google maps did not work too well)

Takayama’s a cosy and relaxed rural town up in high altitudes, so the air was really cool and fresh! A nice change from Osaka.

After a day of strolling around, drinking a bunch of different sake, I departed for Tokyo. But remember the typhoon? Yea it’s still there, and another round of confusing detours left me stranded for hours in Inotani station, an almost uninhabited little area (town? village?) with almost no one in sight. Fun though! Exploring the mountainous countrysides of Japan that have nothing meant for tourists 😀
