If you’re like us you are probably wondering where the best place to stay in Okinawa is. We searched and found Guest House Hamaca 117. This hostel was the perfect mix between price, location and facilities.
Located a mere 5 minute drive from the famous Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium and the turquoise waters of Emerald Beach, this guest house gives you a sense of the local life.
This hostel isn’t the same kind you may be thinking – and this is a residential house being shared – hence a guest house. You’ll have your own room with shared living spaces.
There were only 3 guest rooms, and a live in host. The rooms varied from traditional Japanese style or modern western style. We had a bed that had a western feel – with bunk beds. The beds were comfy, and we were both able to fit (no problem) on the lower level.
The room had a/c to combat the warm tropical nights.
The main area had a kitchen, dining area and sitting area. We used the kitchen several times to prepare meals. It was well equipped and had everything we needed for basic food preparation.
Despite only having one washroom and shower, we didn’t seem to have any issue during our several night stay with people waiting around to use the facilities. The water was hot and had good pressure.
There is parking next to the house in a grassy section. We had a vehicle and had no problem. You will need to have gps to find this place, as it is located deep in a subdivision.
We had a great stay and would recommend this guesthouse to anyone wanting a traditional feel to their stay in Japan.
