गोवा हे भारतातील क्षेत्रफळाच्या दृष्टीने सर्वात छोटे व लोकसंख्येच्या दृष्टीने चौथे छोटे (सिक्कीम, मिझोरम व अरुणाचल प्रदेश या राज्यांनंतरचे) राज्य आहे. ते भारताच्या पश्चिम किनारपट्टीवर असून, त्याच्या उत्तरेला महाराष्ट्र, पूर्व व दक्षिणेला कर्नाटक ही राज्ये, तर पश्चिमेला अरबी समुद्र आहे. मार्च ११ १९९३ रोजी गोव्याला स्वतंत्र राज्याचा दर्जा मिळाला.

गोव्याचे क्षेत्रफळ ३,७०२ चौ.किमी एवढे असून लोकसंख्या १४,५७,७२३ एवढी आहे. कोकणी व मराठी ह्या येथील प्रमुख भाषा आहेत. तसेच शेती व मासेमारी हे गोव्यातील प्रमुख उद्योग आहेत. येथे प्रामुख्याने तांदूळ व कडधान्याचे पिक घेतले जाते. गोव्याची साक्षरता जास्त , म्हणजे ८७.०४ टक्के एवढी आहे. गोव्यात मॅगनीज, लोह व बॅाक्साईट ही खनिजे आढळतात.

गोव्यात सगळी माणसे प्रेमाने राहतात.काम करत असतात.

पणजी हे शहर गोव्याची राजधानी असून राज्यातील सर्वात मोठे शहर असलेले वास्को व पोर्तुगिजांचा ऐतिहासिक प्रभाव असलेले मडगांव ही इतर महत्त्वाची शहरे आहेत. इसवी सनाच्या पंधराव्या शतकात पोर्तुगीजांनी व्यापाराच्या निमित्ताने गोव्यात पाऊल ठेवले . व लवकरच हा प्रदेश काबीज केला. १९६१मध्ये भारताने गोवा मुक्त करेपर्यंत सुमारे ४५० वर्षांच्या दीर्घ कालावधीकरता गोव्यावर पोर्तुगिजांचा अंमल राहिला.

निसर्गसौंदर्याबद्दल प्रसिद्ध असलेल्या समुद्रकिनाऱ्यांमुळे गोवा हे देशी, परदेशी पर्यटकांचे आकर्षण असून पर्यटन हा येथील एक महत्त्वाचा व्यवसाय आहे. गोवा हे प्राचीन मंदिरे व वैशिष्ट्यपूर्ण स्थापत्यकलेबद्दलदेखील प्रख्यात आहे. बॅसिलिका ऑफ बॉम जीझस हे आशियातील सर्वात मोठे ख्रिश्चन यात्रास्थळ गोव्यातच आहे. सह्याद्रीच्या कुशीत वसल्यामुळे गोव्यामध्ये भरपूर जैवविविधता आहे.निसर्गरम्य ठिकाण अशी भारतात गोव्याची ओळख आहे.गोवा हा साहित्य आणि कला याने समृध्द आहे.

Goa was a former state of the Portuguese Empire. The Portuguese overseas territory of Portuguese India existed for about 450 years until it was annexed by India in 1961.

Goa is visited by large numbers of international and domestic tourists each year for its white sand beaches, nightlife, places of worship and World Heritage-listed architecture. It has rich flora and fauna, owing to its location on the Western Ghats range, a biodiversity hotspot.
