Encephalartos ferox is one of the south African species which is severely threatened. It is notonly threatened by human removal, but just as much by animals including monkeys and baboons who consume the flesh eating part of the cones.
It is described as a small size cycad as its trunk rarely crosses 35 cm. It is known for its attractive cones. It is a popular Cycad, and is filmed here at the Jardin Botanico Nacional, outside Havana in Cuba.
