Misawa Airport is jointly used by U.S. Forces in Japan, Japanese Air Self-Defense Force and private airlines. Even though situated in snowy northern Tohoku, because of its high service rate, the airport has played a big role as a main private airport in the region for developments of industries, economy, culture and sightseeing. Regular domestic flights are served for three routes to Tokyo (Haneda), Osaka (Itami) and Sapporo (Okadama), and flights to Hakodate runs on Saturday, Sunday and the national holidays. Many of member and its family of Misawa Air Base use the airport, and so it is known for the internationality.
