The strait which divides Shimonoseki city of Yamaguchi pref. and Kita-kyusyu city of Fukuoka pref. has width of about 700m. The place where about 700 boats come and go in a day, this mingled sound of sea and the whistle of the boat, has been chosen as “Want to preserve; 100 scene of sound in Japan” by the Environment Agency.
