The Japanese Ambassador expressed his country’s readiness to provide the necessary technical and technological support and to open broad horizons for bilateral cooperation that serve mutual interests and contribute to improving the quality of medical services provided to Libyan citizens.
The sentiment was expressed during discussions last Tuesday (12 May) during a meeting held with Mohamed Al-Ghouj, Libya’s Tripoli based Minister of Health at the Ministry’s Tripoli headquarters.
The Health Ministry said the meeting comes as part of the implementation of its plan to revitalize the health sector and improve institutional performance and to discuss prospects for strategic cooperation between the two countries in the medical and technical fields.
The discussions during the meeting focused on vital issues aimed at benefiting from leading Japanese expertise in the health sector. These included:
– Mechanisms for supplying Libyan hospitals and specialized centers with the latest Japanese medical technologies and equipment
– Activating advanced training programmes for medical and paramedical personnel under the supervision of Japanese experts to ensure the localization of knowledge in specialized fields
– Discussing cooperation in the field of health information systems and electronic hospital management in accordance with international quality standards.
Focus on the fight against cancer
The Health Ministry reported that the meeting paid particular attention to the fight against cancer, with both sides discussing avenues for scientific cooperation in oncology research. This included:
– Leveraging advanced Japanese technologies for early tumour detection
– Utilizing artificial intelligence in sample analysis
– Exploring the possibility of localising modern gene and radiotherapy treatments
– Exchanging research data between Libyan cancer centers and Japanese research institutions
– Supporting Libyan reference laboratories to enable them to conduct advanced molecular tests for cancer patients.
Building a modern healthcare system
During the meeting, the Minister emphasised the deep historical ties between Libya and Japan, stressing that the Ministry of Health, through this partnership, seeks to build a modern healthcare system based on precision and technical efficiency.
Al-Ghouj also noted that this initiative comes in implementation of the recommendations of Tripoli Prime Minister, Abdel Hamid Aldabaiba, regarding the necessity of embracing successful international experiences to develop the health sector in all its aspects.
