KYOTO – The father of an 11-year-old boy who went missing in March and was found dead in Kyoto Prefecture in April may have abandoned his son’s body close to a mountain near his home soon after killing the boy, investigative sources said on Thursday.
The arrested suspect, Yūki Adachi, 37, is believed to have moved the body twice more on the same day, the sources added.
Since Adachi, the adoptive father of the boy, participated in the search for his son, he may have tried to delay the discovery of the body, the sources said.
Adachi was first arrested on April 16 on suspicion of abandoning the body after it was discovered in a mountain forest about 8 kilometers northeast of his home on April 13.
On Wednesday, he was rearrested for allegedly murdering the boy in a public bathroom about 2 kilometers from his home on March 23.
Adachi has admitted to the murder allegation, saying he strangled the boy with his bare hands, the sources said.
During voluntary questioning before his first arrest, Adachi suggested he strangled his adoptive son on impulse after getting angry at what the son said during an argument.
