Japanese police have arrested a man for allegedly killing his 11-year-old son before abandoning the body in Nantan City, Kyoto Prefecture.

Police on Wednesday arrested Adachi Yuuki, a 37-year-old company employee, on suspicion of strangling his son, Yuki, in a public restroom.

Investigators quote the father as saying he killed the boy by squeezing his throat with both hands.

Police suspect the father drove Yuki toward his school on the morning of March 23 after the son had breakfast at home. But they say the father did not drop Yuki off and instead drove him to the public restroom.

The boy was found dead in a wooded area on April 13. The father was later arrested for allegedly abandoning the body.

Police are investigating what happened in the car after they left home.
