Opposition leader and Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman arrived in Japan on a seven-day visit today.
He departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka for Japan on a flight at 3:00am on Saturday and reached Tokyo at 10:00am (local time), confirmed Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair, assistant secretary general of Jamaat.
Shafiqur is accompanied by Jamaat MPs — Saiful Alam Khan Milon and Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem, also known as Barrister Arman, who is also the foreign affairs adviser to the Jamaat ameer.
During his week-long visit, he is expected to hold discussions on various bilateral and mutual interest issues with high-ranking Japanese government officials, political figures, and Bangladeshi expatriates, Jamaat said.
He is scheduled to return to Dhaka on May 9.
