Guests staying at Fairfield by Marriott Kyoto Minamiyamashiro on May 23 can take part in a seasonal tea experience led by Japanese tea instructor Mika Hasegawa.

Set in Minamiyamashiro, a well-known producer of Uji tea, the event focuses on shincha (new tea), harvested in early spring. Participants will taste and compare three varieties: locally grown sencha from Minamiyamashiro, pan-fired tea from Miyazaki and deep-steamed tea from Kagoshima. Each offers a distinct flavor profile shaped by regional growing conditions and processing methods.

Hasegawa will guide the tasting, offering context on production techniques and how they influence aroma and taste. The session is designed to be approachable, whether you’re already interested in Japanese tea or simply curious to learn more.

Afterward, guests can explore the adjacent roadside station, Michi-no-Eki Ocha no Kyoto Minamiyamashiro Village, known for tea-based sweets and local products.

The event will take place in the hotel lobby lounge. To join, simply speak to the front desk on the day of your stay.
