Lake Kussharo in Hokkaido, Japan boasts one of the best and most scenic outdoor onsens, also called a rotenburo, in Japan. Kotan hot spring is on the edge of the Lake Kussharo in the beautiful Akan National Park.
This bath is divided into male an female sections with only a rock between them. There is a small change room so you can nude up in private.
The onsen is best enjoyed in the Winter when the lake is covered in ice and drifts of snow surround the hot spring. You will be serenaded by the the geese and swans.
