The WTA Madrid Round of 16 unfolds on Monday. The whole round is being played on one day, instead of being split into two days. This means all eight matches are on the order of play, giving women’s tennis fans one of their best and biggest days of the 2026 season. Let’s look at four of the eight matches on the Monday card.
WTA Madrid
Bencic – Baptiste: Time 5:00 EST
H2H: 0-0
Belinda Bencic is seeded No. 11 in Madrid. Hailey Baptise is the No. 30 seed. Bencic beat top-20 opponent Diana Shnaider to reach the Round of 16 in Spain. Baptiste beat Jasmine Paolini, a top-10 player, to reach this stage of the tournament. The fourth round of a 1,000-point tournament provides a big combination of ranking points and prize money. For two players outside the top 10, this is a huge match with the French Open just around the corner.
Best Bet to Make
This match should be close, since both players are playing well and have beaten quality opponents in Madrid to get to this match. Bencic is favored, but Baptiste is playing more than well enough to take a set at least. Unless you think Bencic is going to dominate this match, take Baptiste with a set or game spread.
That being said, betting on Baptiste +1.5 sets is a value bet for sure.

Li – Fernandez: Time 5:00 EST
H2H: 2-0
Ann Li advanced to this round by beating Iga Swiatek, but the circumstances attached to that result merit attention. Swiatek was ill during the match and had to retire when trailing in the third set. Li certainly deserves credit for showing up ready to play and for being able to split the first two sets with Swiatek and then take the early lead in the third. If Li hadn’t played as well, she might not have been able to finish the job. However, an opponent falling ill is hard to ignore when evaluating a tennis player. It’s a win for Li, but not as complete a win as it would have been if Swiatek were healthy. Leylah Fernandez rallied to beat Iva Jovic in the third round and advance to the Round of 16.
Best Bet to Make
Indeed, Li’s win over Swiatek was aided by the Polish star’s poor health, but Li still had to get some work done in that match. Li should be able to keep this match very close. Fernandez is a solid top-30 player but not an elite player. The markets seem to give Fernandez a lot of respect. That respect might not be entirely warranted.
That being said, betting on Li +3.5 games is a value bet for sure.

Sierra – Pliskova: Time 7:00 EST
H2H: 0-1
Karolina Pliskova is in her mid-30s but is turning back the clock right now. The former major finalist just beat a quality opponent, Elise Mertens, to reach the fourth round. Pliskova is not the fastest player on tour, but she is calling upon her experience to outfox capable opponents. The more she wins, the more her confidence is restored. Solana Sierra lost the first set of her third-round match 6-0 to Zeynep Sonmez. She regrouped and won the last two sets to advance to the Round of 16. She is showing a level of toughness that a lot of other pros lack.
Best Bet to Make
This is a tough match to predict, but Pliskova – having beaten Mertens – should seemingly be able to figure out how to beat Sierra, who looked wobbly against Sonmez before steadying herself. Pliskova, if she wins the first set against Sierra, is unlikely to falter the way Sonmez did. This match should lean towards Pliskova.
That being said, betting on Pliskova -2.5 games is a value bet for sure.

Sabalenka – Osaka: Time 7:00 EST
H2H: 4-1
This is the featured match on Monday’s schedule. World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka faces Naomi Osaka in a battle of players who have won four major championships apiece. Notably, however, neither player has won a major on clay. All their major titles have been won at hardcourt tournaments. Sabalenka, though, has come very close to winning the French Open, losing narrowly to Coco Gauff in last year’s final. Osaka has never gotten past the third round of the French Open.
Best Bet to Make
Osaka is not nearly as good as Sabalenka is on clay. Everyone knows that. However, Osaka does get up for big matches on any surface. She very nearly beat Iga Swiatek at the French Open in 2024, when Swiatek was at her peak. Osaka likes the big stage and a challenge. She probably won’t beat Sabalenka, but she’s unlikely to be blown out. She’s going to keep this reasonably close.
That being said, betting on Osaka +5.5 games is a value bet for sure.
