SAPPORO — “Toukibi Wagon” seasonal corn food stalls began operating in Odori Park in the city of Sapporo’s Chuo Ward on April 21.

Although it rained in the morning on the first day, the skies cleared before noon, and residents and tourists sat on benches in the park eating the corn they had bought.

There are two stalls in the park that are operated by the Sapporo Foundation Greenery Park, while Yamaga Chikusan, a local company based in the city’s Nishi Ward, is in charge of sales.

In addition to Hokkaido-grown boiled and grilled corn, each priced at 500 yen (around $3) a piece, the stalls also sell buttered potatoes made in the resort town of Niseko for 350 yen (around $2).

Yuki Asami, a 36-year-old tourist visiting from the city of Higashimatsuyama, Saitama Prefecture, smiled and said, “It’s sweet and delicious. I couldn’t eat it on my trip last year because the timing was bad, so I’m happy.” The stalls will be open until Oct. 18.
