OSAKA (TR) — Police are investigating an incident where a passenger’s mobile battery burst into flames on an Osaka Metro train on Sunday morning, forcing a temporary shutdown of the entire Midosuji Line, reports Mainichi Broadcasting System (Apr. 19).

At approximately 11:45 a.m., the battery ignited inside a carriage of a Minoh-kayano-bound train while it was stopped at Daikokucho Station in Osaka City’s Naniwa Ward.

Emergency responders, including police and firefighters, quickly arrived at the scene to ensure passenger safety. Authorities confirmed that the blaze was swiftly extinguished and no injuries have been reported.

Due to the security scare, Osaka Metro suspended all operations on the Midosuji Line starting at 11:48 a.m. Services resumed about 30 minutes later at 12:16 p.m.

The disruption caused delays of up to 30 minutes for 21 trains, inconveniencing an estimated 29,500 commuters.

Police and relevant authorities are currently examining the charred device to determine the exact cause of the sudden ignition.
