Sources familiar with the investigation into the alleged abandonment of a boy’s body in Kyoto Prefecture, western Japan, say his father implied during voluntary questioning before his arrest that he strangled his son to death.

Adachi Yuuki, a 37-year-old company employee, was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of abandoning the body of his 11-year-old son, Yuki, in the city of Nantan. The father reportedly admitted to the allegation during police questioning.

Police launched searches for the boy after he went missing on March 23. His body was found in a wooded area of the city on Monday.

From the investigation, it was revealed that the suspect’s smartphone retained searches on how to abandon human remains. The web searches occurred while his son was missing.

Sources said earlier police examined location data and other information retrieved from the father’s smartphone. That data reportedly led to the discovery of the boy’s corpse and sneakers that are believed to be his.

The suspect’s car was moved from his home for further investigation on Friday morning.
