Haneda 2026: The “Secret” Way to Departure
If you’re flying out of Haneda Airport this year, the rules have officially changed. Between the massive November 1st Tax-Free overhaul and the new terminal confusion that catches even frequent flyers off guard, showing up unprepared could cost you your refund—or even your flight.
❓Why your departure is different this year:
2026 is a transition year for Japan. We are moving away from the “instant discount” era into a new refund-based tax-free system. This means the 10% consumption tax is no longer removed at the shop; instead, you’ll be heading to the new J-TaxRefund kiosks at Haneda before you fly. This guide walks you through the exact timing issues this creates and why keeping your receipts (and your purchases!) accessible is now a mandatory requirement for Customs.
We also tackle the “Terminal Trap.” With Terminal 2 now handling a major portion of international ANA routes, assuming you depart from Terminal 3 is a dangerous mistake. We’ll show you how to verify your terminal and how to use the Face Express biometric kiosks to “skip the line” and save up to 20 minutes at security. Plus, I’m sharing my favorite 5th-floor “secret” shop where souvenirs are cheaper than at the gate, and the post-security duty-free strategy that guarantees you’ll snag those rare whiskies before they sell out.

Thank you for sharing helpful Haneda Airport information. Excellent guide.
I noticed the Royce' display at 3:00–we tried this chocolate from a store in Seattle and it is BY FAR our favorite chocolate! Now, about the tax: I don't think any country should offer tax free shopping that the citizens of that country don't also enjoy. It was originated as a way to entice travelers before traveling became easy and cheap. It isn't really a motivation for travel anymore.
What a terrific and informative video! Thanks!
