The team from the Consulate General of Italy in Osaka, led by Consul General Filippo Manara, visited the Daikin Technology and Innovation Center (TIC) as part of the activities of the Science & Technology Diplomatic Circle Kansai, a scientific diplomacy platform that brings together consular representatives, research institutions, and industry players in the Kansai region.

During the visit, the delegation was welcomed by representatives of the Center, who outlined the main areas of activity of the Daikin Group, a global leader in the air conditioning, heating, and air purification sectors, with a presence in over 170 countries. In Europe, the group operates through its own industrial and commercial infrastructure, while Italy—where Daikin has made numerous acquisitions and investments—is a key market for the development and deployment of advanced solutions for environmental comfort and energy efficiency.

The Technology and Innovation Center, inaugurated in 2015 in Settsu (Osaka), serves as the group’s primary global research hub and brings together over 1,000 engineers dedicated to developing advanced technologies in the fields of the environment and air quality. The Center is distinguished by an approach based on “collaborative innovation,” which fosters cooperation with universities, research centers, and industrial partners, including at the international level.

During the meeting, the group’s main research and development activities were presented, with a particular focus on solutions for energy efficiency, the widespread adoption of heat pumps, and the development of technologies to reduce environmental impact. The delegation also had the opportunity to closely observe several applications and prototypes currently under development, with demonstrations related to air quality control, climate comfort, and the integration of smart systems for sustainable buildings.

The initiative organized by the Consulate General of Italy served as an opportunity for dialogue among the worlds of research, industry, and diplomacy, helping to strengthen dialogue with Japan on strategic issues such as the energy transition, technological innovation, and environmental sustainability.
