A Perfect Day in Osaka: River Walk, Dotonbori & 551 Pork Buns

We spent another day exploring Osaka, and this one turned out to be simple, relaxing, and really fun.

The day started with a buffet breakfast before heading out for a walk along the river. After that, we made our way into central Osaka and spent time wandering around the city, including the Dotonbori area. Along the way, we checked out Japanese ceramics, soaked in the atmosphere, and finished with one of Osaka’s most famous treats from 551 Horai.

Sometimes the best travel days are not packed with major plans. They are just about walking, discovering little things, eating good food, and enjoying the city as it unfolds

Have you tried 551 Horai before? Let me know in the comments.

  1. We will be in Osaka in September. I have added 551 Horai to our Must Eat list along with the diahes you suggested. Thanks 🎉

  2. Hi Shinichi and Satoshi, I'm pretty sure I bought butaman from the same 551 Horai store you did. Using mustard is such an inspired choice, I ended up doing the same thing with Dijon mustard on pork buns in Singapore.

  3. Satoshi embracing the day made me smile from ear-to-ear! Sitting by the Yodogawa must have been very relaxing and centering, especially on such a gorgeous day! Annon is a store you'd have to pry me out of.😄 I particularly liked the Yachimun-ish dishes. Your dinner looked yummy. The Butaman would be a favorite if I still ate meat. Btw, barefeet and hotel pajamas just add to the coziness, imo. 😊 I hope you had another good sleep that night, Shinichi. Love to you both. 💜💜

  4. Shinichi & Satoshi: Stay forever “young” in your adventurous travels & Mahalo Nui for always bringing us along.
Osaka is wonderful thru both of your eyes – the sights, sounds, tastes…….
