I absolutely love Satsumaimo! Their crispy skin on the outside and soft chestnut flavor potato on the inside is unlike any japanese vegetable I've eaten! I usually like to eat them baked over a fire with honey drizzled over them or simply just chopped up in warm soup. However, I would really like to find more home-style dishes to enjoy this sweet savory vegetable. Tell me how you enjoy your Satsumaimo and if you don't mind share some of your recipes with me!

I love mine charred on a charcoal grill – under the dark/blackened skin makes for a gooey, burnt sugar taste.
Tempura and Hoshiimo
One of my favorite savory uses for them is to put them in curry, it’s a common Vietnamese recipe.

Melting butter and a bit of cheese on top of them also makes a great sweet/salty combination.
Edit: I almost forgot, they’re also really great in tonjiru.

I love satsumaimo just baked until really soft. Itβs so simple, but the natural sweetness is the best part for me. Tempura is great too.π
The site justonecookbook.com has a recipe for these candied with a sweet soy sauce glaze that is really good

Roasted with natto for breakfast on a cold morning.
(1) bake
(2) eat
Baked. Then split it open, add an egg, some diced bell peppers, and spring onions. Put back in oven for another 15 min. Then eat.
This but made into chips with some sugar sprinkled on it.

Creme brulee
Eating roasted sweet potato topped with salted butter is heavenly.
Baked with buffalo sauce.
Daigaku imo!
How do you bake them to get them all soft?
