TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to make a working visit to Japan on March 29-31 and to South Korea on March 31-April 2.
The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs website stated that Prabowo is scheduled to attend a state luncheon with Emperor Naruhito of Japan. In addition, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is set to hold a meeting with President Prabowo.
The Japanese government said that Prabowo’s visit to Japan would provide both countries with an opportunity to strengthen their comprehensive and strategic partnership. “The Japanese government sincerely welcomes the visit of President Prabowo,” according to a statement from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Prabowo’s visit to Japan this time marks his first official visit as Indonesian President. Previously, in September 2025, Prabowo personally visited Expo 2025 Osaka in Kansai, Japan. Subsequently, President Prabowo is scheduled to continue his journey to South Korea. South Korea’s news agency, Yonhap, reported that Prabowo will be on a state visit from March 31 to April 2, 2026.
The visit aims to discuss bilateral relations with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung.
According to Yonhap, the spokesperson for South Korean President, Kang Yu-jung, stated in a written announcement that the two leaders will discuss practical cooperation in various fields, including trade, investment, defense and security industries, artificial intelligence, infrastructure, shipbuilding, nuclear energy, energy transition, and the cultural sector.
Furthermore, it is mentioned that President Prabowo and President Lee Jae Myung are expected to discuss ways to enhance the relationship between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and South Korea. Additionally, they plan to discuss security issues and other global issues, including the Korean Peninsula and West Asia.
