
As the title suggests, my wife and I want to recreate some sukiya but can’t figure out the melted cheese on top? What could we use to substitute (USA)?
-I know some people will say other places have better gyudon and that’s fine, we are craving this specifically

It’s not that difficult. It’s processed cheese slices set on top of some grated cheese. Just buy some kraft slices and all good.
If in usa id suggest velveeta or similar

Pretty sure that’s their equivalent of a Kraft single.
Velveeta would probably be the closest match for that gooey consistency. But slices of American cheese should be almost the same.
“Recreate”, so you had some in Japan? What was the flavor of the cheese like?
