About 2,000 tourists and photographers gathered before dawn on the morning of January 1 to see the first sunrise of the year from a tourist facility at the foot of Mount Fuji in Fujikawaguchiko Town, Yamanashi Prefecture. They endured a low temperature of -4.6°C before the sun began to peek out from behind the iconic mountain around 8:00 a.m., radiating a dazzling light that sparkled like diamonds.
