Kyushu Hidden Towns π―π΅ Puffer Fish, Mojiko Retro & Kokura Castle
In this vlog, we explored some of the hidden towns in northern Kyushu that are surprisingly easy to visit from Fukuoka.
Using the Northern Kyushu JR Pass, we took the Shinkansen from Hakata to Kokura in just about 15 minutes. Our first stop was Kokura Castle, followed by a walk around the station area.
Next we traveled to Mojiko, a beautiful retro port town known for its historic European style buildings and seaside views.
From Mojiko we crossed by ferry to Shimonoseki, which is famous for being the puffer fish capital of the world. Here we tried a tasting of puffer fish (fugu) for dinner.
This turned out to be one of the most interesting routes to explore around northern Kyushu, combining a castle visit, a retro port town, and a unique Japanese food experience in one journey.
If you are visiting Fukuoka or Kyushu, this route is definitely worth adding to your itinerary.
