Asa Nakano is an Associate Professor at the Center for Enhancing Next-Generation Research, Kyoto University. Since 2020, she has been the deputy manager of the Researcher Development Programs (the Program for the Development of Next-generation Leading Scientists with Global Insight, L-INSIGHT), implemented by the centre.
The program, which is established by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), includes the identification of challenges in career development and the designing of schemes using participatory development methods. Her specialty is in the approach of coaching leadership, and she has extensive practical experience in establishing creative environments that enable researchers to achieve their long-term goals.
Concurrently, she conducts research through networks with policymakers, universities, and government agency officials in Australia and EU countries. Based on this research, she lectures on program design methods for academic support specialists in Japan and abroad, and is responsible for training programs targeting awardees of the MEXT doctoral talents development programs since 2024.
Her academic background is in the conservation and restoration design of modern architectural heritage, for which she trained in Japan and Spain. She is also a first-class architect.
