Travel Plan | Atami Fireworks Festival & Oceanfront Retreat
Atami is just 40 minutes from Tokyo by Shinkansen, making it a perfect weekend getaway. This trip was centered around the Atami Fireworks Festival, one of Japan’s most spectacular summer events. The fireworks launched from the sea lit up the night sky with breathtaking beauty.
Before the event, we stayed at a Japanese-style ocean-view hotel, offering a stunning view of the coastline. The atmosphere was serene and luxurious. From there, we walked to the venue, enjoying the relaxed mood of the evening.
To get into the summer spirit, we rented yukata near Atami Station. The process was simple, and many stylish designs were available. Even if you’re not familiar with traditional footwear, you can wear sneakers instead.
Before the fireworks, we had fresh sushi near the venue. For the best experience, we recommend reserving special seats at the hotel guest area. The powerful fireworks and vibrant colors were truly unforgettable.
The next day, we explored Atami’s retro shopping street, trying local treats like Atami Pudding, yogurt, and grilled eel rice. The nostalgic charm of the area added to the experience.
We also visited a famous ramen shop known for its limited chashu ramen and hidden-menu omelet rice. Be sure to go early, as it gets crowded before opening.
Before returning to Tokyo, we stopped by the MOA Museum of Art. Located on a hill, it offers panoramic views of Sagami Bay and showcases national treasures, including traditional art, a Noh theater, and a tea room.
Atami offers a rich mix of summer festivities, traditional culture, scenic beauty, and gourmet food. It’s an ideal destination for those looking to enjoy a deeper side of Japan, all within easy reach from Tokyo.
