Bonnet and Gay celebrate double victory at the end
Ski touring race. – The Swiss dominate the conclusion of the European Ski Touring Championships in Azerbaijan. Rémi Bonnet won the non-Olympic vertical race ahead of his compatriot Aurélien Gay and Austria’s Christoph Hochenwarter. Robin Bussard (4th) and Ludovic Lattion (6th) rounded off the great Swiss team result. Caroline Ulrich secured bronze in the women’s race. The 24-year-old from western Switzerland was only beaten by Austria’s Sarah Dreier and Italy’s Giulia Murada. Thibe Deseyn (4th) was just over half a minute behind her compatriot and bronze respectively. Marianne Fatton (5th), who cleaned up big at the Olympics and won gold twice and silver once at the European Championships, came away empty-handed for once.
Podium finish for Noémi Wiedmer
Snowboard. – Olympic fourth-placed Noemi Wiedmer finished third on the World Cup podium on Sunday. In the boardercross in Erzurum, Turkey, the 18-year-old from the Bernese Oberland was in the lead for a while, as she had been in the Olympic final, but then lost positions. Aline Albrecht made it through to the small final. The remaining women and men in the Swiss teams were stuck in the quarter-finals at the latest.
Hablützel best European in Sapporo
Snowboard. – Switzerland’s David Hablützel returned to the World Cup with 8th place. He was the best European in the halfpipe in Sapporo. The Australian Valentino Guseli in 2nd place was the only athlete who could keep up with the Japanese. Six of the first seven places went to the locals. The winner was Yuto Totsuka, with Ryusei Yamada in third. The final could not be held due to the poor weather conditions, so the results of the qualification were counted. Jan Scherrer finished at the bottom of the 15-strong classification after a crash. The 31-year-old from St. Gallen had already crashed in Livigno and had to skip the Olympic halfpipe competition as a result.
Nadine Fähndrich best Swiss
Cross-country skiing. – Nadine Fähndrich achieved the best result for the Swiss women in Lahti with 11th place in the 10 km race in classic technique with individual start. She finished 38 seconds behind the winner Frida Karlsson, beating Anja Weber (19th) and Nadja Kälin (24th) within the team.
