Good guide here! There's also the cashback on top I've mentioned before. That's on top of any loyalty scheme and discounted rooms if you click on the sites via one of the cashback operators. I'll get 20% for my Christmas trip and 18% back for my forthcoming summer trip.
just stay at JAL hotels … no problem … do NOT stay at APA … the owner is a seriously crazy right wing wacko …
Awesome video with great tips I personally love booking my stay with Toyoko Inn. They have free breakfast and the one I stay at in western Tokyo harder ever has tourists ever. I liked the hotel so much I even stayed at one when I was up in Hachinohe in Aomori. Which the hotel so happened to be right next to Hachinohe Station where the Shinkansen makes a stop. So once your done with your long ride up to Northern Honshu you can rest a bit. I would have to look into the hotels you've suggested Ninja Monkey. They look like good alternatives in case if anything goes sour.
8:33 not sure how much a flex 100's of yen is tbh
APA for me but i got the hotel within 5 min walk from train station in ueno for Narita route. I do try to get same APA hotel near Don quixote and madarake. Convenient distance from stations if possible, if its too expensive at locatiin u move to next option. Mid golden week start to my trip.
I like Japanese hotels.😂 very clean and quiet.
I agree with your points. I'd add Flex Stay Inns to your hotel list. Basic small rooms, but all you really need. My last trip I booked and rebooked a total of four times, saved thousands of yen overall plus got a great location. Also figure out where your closest metro station and JR stations are, especially in Tokyo for Yamanote Line. A 15 minute walk or less is OK. When it stretches to 1/2 an hour walk it will wear on you, because it's Japan, you'll walk a lot anyway.
Folks he is lying about May and June, never go then!
Stay Away! 🤣
Seriously great video, i will be checking my hotels a week before i go to see if pricing has changed along with while i am in the Country to save a bit.
I have one quest… or TWO 😛
So I am getting a tabori tattoo and i will have to be there for 6 days around Sumida City, Kōtōbashi area…. so i am wondering if i should book a hotel for my final two weeks and travel there each morning?
OR book 2 different hotels as i think with my second to last week i will rent a car and travel around the wider area of Tokyo… or book 3 hotels and have the final night near a station that gets me to Narita easily, plus… should i arrive 4 hours early to go home or not? flight is 6:15pm
The Uguisudani/Tokyo area is perfect, I loved it so much, it felt so much like home in a short time, next Tokyo trips I'll definitely favor this area again 😊 Bonus points are that you're close to Akihabara and Sensouji
Good advice. I always book with free cancellations, but since I book in advance, the prices go up. This time I'm booking in late May to avoid the seasonal crowds and got a decent room in Tokyo for under $100 a night.
Ueno is a great place to stay when flying to and from Narita because the Keisei Skyliner takes you there in under 40 minutes.
For the peak time booking i think its true.
I was looking already in november 2025 to book for the august Kumano, Mie fireworks festival and kinda 80% of all accomodations in area of 30km are all fully booked for that time. 🙈
Even got a message from an owner that they are booked until 2028 for that festival.
So i booked a stay at a japanese farmhouse which have a direct bus connection, but a big problem back when festival is over. 😅
So will go by car and leave it 1h walk away cause many say traffic is craaaazy when almost 100k people come to see it all. 😅
I'll recommend looking at Remm hotels too. A little short on amenities, but the rates are good, the rooms are clean and very quiet, and the locations are great, always right next to a station.
na I already booked my hotel they can t add more fees
