JAKARTA – Prabowo Subianto is rumored to visit Japan and hold a summit meeting with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in late March.
The Kyodomelaporkan news agency reported on Thursday, March 5, Japan will reaffirm its solidarity in promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific region with Indonesia, which has a strategic position for shipping.

According to sources, Prabowo is considering a two-day visit on March 30. The visit will be Prabowo’s first visit to Japan since taking office as President of the Republic of Indonesia in October 2024.
PM Takaichi has revealed his plan to update the Indo-Pacific Free and Open Zone (FOIP) initiative as a pillar of Japanese diplomacy.
To realize the initiative proposed by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in 2016, Takaichi will make relations with ASEAN countries the main focus.
Indonesia is a recipient of Japan’s official security assistance program in the form of defense equipment to friendly countries, according to the Kyodo report.
It is stated that in January 2025, Japan agreed to provide high-speed patrol boats to Indonesia.
Prabowo and Takaichi will also exchange views on economic issues, including strengthening the supply chain of important commodities.
