Living in Japan for 11 years taught me two things: Hokkaido is insanely beautiful… and it can also be brutally ugly. So here’s my No BS 7-Day Hokkaido Winter Itinerary, engineered to minimize risk (blizzards, delays, chaos) while maximizing fun. I call it the Murphy Route, because in winter Hokkaido, anything that can go wrong will try.

Quick Logistics (So you don’t get wrecked)
🚆 New Chitose Airport → Sapporo: JR Rapid Airport (about 37 min)
💺 Upgrade tip: pay about ¥840 for u-Seat to lock a reserved seat + luggage space
🚌 Backup plan: Chuo Bus / Hokuto Kotsu Bus to Sapporo Station (about ¥1,300)
🏨 Stay location: North side of Sapporo Station (not Susukino)
🥾 Otaru safety: buy Suberi-Dome (shoe spikes) at Daiso before you go

🔧 Lost in Migration (my app): I’m building a tool that helps you find the best value hotels, private onsens, and smarter Japan trip plans faster.
