National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik will officially visit Japan for parliamentary summit diplomacy between the two countries.

According to the National Assembly on the 4th, Woo will officially visit Japan for three nights and four days from the same day to the 7th. During this trip, Chairman Woo plans to hold in-depth discussions on economic cooperation, peace on the Korean Peninsula, and cultural and human exchanges through a series of meetings with House of Representatives Chairman Aceke Mori and Senator Masakazu Sekiguchi.

Chairman Woo said, “This visit was made to strengthen a new level of relations and strategic partnership between the two countries through exchanges at the highest level of parliament following the recently resumed summit shuttle diplomacy.

According to the National Assembly, Woo plans to promote parliamentary diplomacy to promote friendly exchanges with the leaders of the upper house and ask for cooperation in celebration of the newly formed House of Representatives during the visit. It also plans to discuss supply chain cooperation and accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) with Japan, a key economic and security partner.

“We will form a consensus on peace in the region with Japan and ask for a constructive role in easing tensions on the Korean Peninsula,” the National Assembly said. “We plan to discuss ways to revitalize bilateral exchanges through culture and active human exchanges that connect each other’s lives, and ask for attention to local compatriots.”

The trip will be accompanied by Reps. Moon Jin-seok, Park Hee-seung and Kim Dong-ah of the Democratic Party of Korea, Rep. Lee Sang-hwi of the People’s Power, Chief of Staff Cho Oh-seop, and Special Ambassador for Foreign Affairs Ko Kyung-seok.
