Visitors now have a second chance to experience 2025 Osaka-Kansai World Expo thanks to a new exhibition in Tokyo that recreates the mega event through virtual technology and large-scale displays.
Titled “Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan Memorial Caravan Expo Exhibition: Connecting to the Future”, the roving exhibition has kicked off at the Marunouchi Building in central Tokyo before touring other cities across Japan.
A highlight is a dome-shaped theatre that uses 360-degree footage to transport visitors inside selected Expo pavilions, creating the sensation of walking through the site itself.
Complementing the virtual element is a detailed 1:200 scale model of the Expo’s Grand Ring – the two-kilometre wooden loop that served as one of the event’s most recognisable landmarks – alongside photo panels highlighting moments and attractions from the Expo.
Offered free of charge, the exhibition will travel next to Kasuya in Fukuoka Prefecture from 28 February to 1 March, before moving to Sapporo on 7 and 8 March, and Sendai from 14 to 15 March.
The new touring showcase is organised by the Secretariat of the Headquarters for the World Expo 2025 and the Cabinet Secretariat; and co-organised by the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
Further related events are planned nationwide from April by the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition, extending the legacy of the Expo beyond its physical run.
