On a similar note US tv about 12 years ago there was a travel show called 'the booze traveller' hosted by the amiable Jack Maxwell. Nice show. One time he mentioned that doing the show was a very lonely experience. Just wondered if you got that vibe in Japan given its reserved social etiquette and that the only lingo you could possibly know is honda, kawasaki and maybe a bit of nissan sushi?

I have been to both the Drunken Clam and Murphys in Osaka and can confirm they are both full of tourists who cannot sing at all to the point that its painful to listen to. Just opposite the Drunken Clam is a great bar called Bar Zerro which does amazing cocktails, a pity you didnt stop in there

Amsterdam used to be great (haven't been for a while) but I go to Proeflokaal Arendsnest; In The Wildeman and Beer Temple. Ma Cha Fa the football pub for Roma. Glad that you ventured out to Japan!
