Two years ago, I spent a month travelling across Japan in search photographing snowy scenes.
In this video I take a road trip from Sapporo all the way to Cape Soya, the most northern point of Japan. This trip became one of the best trips of my life. Japan is always magical, but seeing it completely covered in snow is something else entirely.

  1. I was fortunate to spend time in Hokkaido in late February of 2024, Biei absolutely blew my mind. I’m a black and white nature photographer, I was in absolute heaven with all the minimalistic scenes. Great video to help me remember my time there, can’t wait to get back.
P.S. the row of trees at 12:24 have since been cut down, thankful I got to see them before that.

  2. I loved the video, easily one of your best. I especially like the vibrant colours against the black of night and the white snow during the day. Funny how we sometimes feel something is not our best while others absolutely love it.. I barely ever reply on videos but I felt I had to tell you those are some amazing pictures, I especially love the two at 9:049:07 , the cyan and red signs and warm street lights are really amazing.

  3. Looks like I need to work a bit harder on my British accent 🤣
Great video, Scott — you can really see the effort that’s gone into it. Braving the cold too, especially heading to Japan’s north island straight from a Kiwi summer 🤪

  4. Not sure why you delayed the release of this video, some great photos and places to visit. The balaclava is a must in that weather. Enjoyed.

  5. The Seven Stars Trees at 12:26 have all been cut down. The locals got tired of tourists blocking the road to get their selfies. Such a shame.
