US President Donald Trump says he will hold a summit with Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae in Washington next month.
Trump said on social media on Thursday, “I look forward to welcoming Prime Minister Takaichi to the White House on March 19th.”
Referring to his visit to Japan last year, Trump said he was extremely impressed with Takaichi.
He added that the United States and Japan have worked closely on national security, as well as what he calls a very substantial “Trade Deal” that strongly benefits both countries.
Trump also touched on Japan’s Lower House election scheduled for Sunday.
He wrote that, “as President of the United States of America, it is my Honor to give a Complete and Total Endorsement of her.”
Trump has previously expressed support for candidates in elections outside the US. But it is rare for a US president to announce a stance on an election in Japan.
