First time traveling to Kyoto in may after golden week. Staying just a couple of minutes away from the Station.
We plan to visit Saga–Toriimoto and Giō-ji, which we added to our itinerary from one of your hidden gems videos!
Bonus option: be in a hotel around Osaka station and commute from there. JR Kyoto line, Keihan line (slower) or Hankyu Kyoto line (slower, but takes you directly to the W – NW part of Kyoto). Bonus is lower hotel prices and also a rapid line to Kobe, just to get that steak.
Aman Kyoto = 2K to 3.5k night xD
Having been to Kyoto twice my advice would be to hire a guide with a car and visit some of the lesser known sites
Hi Andrew! I have been to Kyoto 3 times over the last 6 years and the BEST thing to get is A BUS MAP. This map looks like a complicated electrical layout, but once you study it you will catch the right bus to get you anywhere you want to go, unlike trains. I have used the original map I got on all trips, still works! Can you still get such a map? Maybe at information ℹ️ place?
I always stay about a block or two from central Shijo Dori because of ease of bus routes. 🚌🤩🇯🇵🇦🇺
we're staying 3 nights in kyoto in april and decided to stay 2 of those 3 nights around nijo castle area precisely for those reasons! it was much cheapear than staying all 3 nights around kyoto stations plus it's basically halfway into arashiyama so we can easily get there earlier 🙂 we're only staying the last night next to kyoto station cuz we gonna get the train to nara next morning. i know some people recommend staying in osaka instead as it can be much cheaper but unless you're staying for a lot of time i personally would not recommend it… we did that last time and it was sooo tiring absolutely not worth saving thos extra $!
