Things to Do in Kyoto, Japan 🇯🇵

1️⃣ Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion)
Originally known as Rokuon-ji, this renowned Zen Buddhist temple is one of Kyoto’s most iconic sights. The golden hall shimmering over the reflective pond feels almost unreal—centuries of history wrapped in pure elegance. Easily one of the most impressive landmarks in Kyoto.

2️⃣ Ryoan-ji Temple
Famous for its minimalist Zen rock garden, Ryoan-ji is all about stillness and reflection. A quiet, grounding stop that perfectly balances Kyoto’s busier attractions.

3️⃣ Sushi Ishimatsu 🍣
📍36 Shishigatani Honenin Nishimachi, Sakyo Ward, Kyoto

This spot felt incredibly special—run by a sweet elderly couple who genuinely reminded us of grandparents making sushi with love.

We ordered two sushi sets:

¥1800 set: Kappamaki, Tekkamaki, Ebi, Tamago, Tai, Maguro, Hamachi

¥3200 set: Uni, Ikura, Toro, Amaebi, Ika, Maguro, Tai, Hirame

The portions were generous enough to share, and they even cut the pieces in half for us. The quality was outstanding, especially for the price—top-tier value and one of our most memorable meals in Kyoto.

4️⃣ Yasaka Shrine
A beautiful and lively shrine, especially atmospheric toward the evening. It’s a great starting point for exploring the Gion area.

5️⃣ Maccha House 🍵
📍3 Chome-337 Kiyomizu, Higashiyama Ward

A must for matcha lovers:

Matcha Shaved Ice

Matcha Tiramisu

Rich, balanced, and not overly sweet—perfect after a long day of walking.

6️⃣ Pontocho Alley 🌙
A narrow lantern-lit alley along the river, packed with charm. Ideal for evening strolls, people-watching, and soaking in Kyoto’s nightlife vibe.

7️⃣ Onimaru 🍙
📍33-4 Daikokucho, Kyoto

Simple, comforting Japanese bites done right—great for a quick, satisfying stop.
