Drum Tao, the Japanese performance group known for its taiko drumming and rhythm-driven shows, is set to open its first dedicated theatre in Kyoto on 9 April 2026, giving the internationally toured ensemble a permanent stage for year-round performances.

The new Drum Tao Theater Kyoto is located within the Avanti Building, just outside Kyoto Station’s Hachijo Exit.

The venue is designed specifically for the group’s dynamic, non-verbal performances, with a planned floor area of approximately 1,395sqm and a seating capacity of around 320 guests.

The dedicated theatre will enable permanent long-run evening shows, a first for Drum Tao, allowing audiences to experience the shows without the limitations of touring schedules or multipurpose halls.

Beyond the main auditorium, the facility will also feature venues including a rooftop bar, a lounge and bar, a rooftop terrace, which the operator says is uncommon in urban theatres, and even a merchandise store.

Since its founding, Drum Tao has built a global reputation with performances in more than 500 cities across 31 countries and a cumulative audience topping 10 million people.

While this Kyoto theatre will be the company’s first permanent indoor home dedicated solely to its shows, Drum Tao already operates other settings, including the “TAO no Oka” open-air theater nestled in Aso Kuju National Park and touring programs like CLUB TAO in Tokyo and Osaka,

Tickets for the Kyoto venue are expected to go on sale in early 2026 ahead of the planned opening.
