Maaya Sakamoto is both one of my favorite voice actresses and one of my favorite singers of all time.
My first exposure to her was in Vision of Escaflowne, in which she both voiced the main character Hitomi Kanzaki (Wow! A 16-year-old girl actually voiced by a 16-year-old girl!) and sang the OP "Yakusoku wa Iranai" composed by the fabulous Yoko Kanno. For this reason, I own multiple albums from Maaya's singing career.
More recently, I played Final Fantasy VII Remake/Rebirth. When I played OG, I, like many other players, actively tried to ship Cloud with Tifa though Aerith was the default love interest. When I played Remake/Rebirth, I became an Aerith convert, and that had everything to do with how Maaya voiced her in Japanese. Maaya made Aerith both hilarious and absolutely adorable.
When I found out that Aerith sang a song in FFVII Rebirth, I was sorely disappointed her singing voice was Loren Allred's instead of letting Maaya sing it instead.
