The Japan You Missed: Tokyo to Sapporo by Train
It was finally time to make my first trip to Hokkaido. Instead of flying from Tokyo, taking the train seemed like the much better option as it would give me the chance to stop along the way to a number of other destinations I have never explored before. These included Hakodate on the way up and Sendai on the way down.
Besides the epic fall colors I was able to experience all kinds of delicious local dishes from local takes on Ramen, seafood and rare treats like the Kaitakushi beer which can only be sampled in Sapporo.
It was a great introduction to Hokkaido but I only just scratched the surface. I very much look forward to returning in the future and exploring some of the stunning nature as well.
